Welcome to Atwood Island

Situated in the heart of the Lower French River, right on the fur-trading route of old. Your home will be one of the seven completely private rustic log cabins that dot the island, each with hot and cold running water with shower, a heater to take the chill out of the evening air, electricity from our own modern power plant, and a porch complete with deck chairs so you can enjoy your own unique vista of the river.

Fishing at its finest

The varied waters of the lower French River, never heavily fished, are teeming with so many fish that your most improbable fish story will come true. Some of the largest pike, bass and muskie on record have been taken from these waters, and each season produced its own lunkers. See for yourself why the lower French has gained an international reputation among knowledgeable anglers.

When you leave our dock you're no more than a few minutes from any of the fishing areas, whether you're exploring the Eagle's Nest on your own or fishing Georgian Bay below the rapids with a guide. Your hearty shore lunch will complement your morning's catch.

We'll be waiting for you when you return in the evening, ready to ice your day's catch and to provide anything you might need before dinner, Your cabin, prepared during the day, will be ready too.

You'll start your day with a wholesome breakfast in our dining lounge, while our efficient staff prepares your boat, packing your shore lunch and making sure there's lots of fuel for your dependable 15 horsepower outboard motor. If you need bait, tackle, ice or refreshments, they're available right at dockside.

The highlight of the day on Atwood Island is dinner-time. Gather early in the lodge to swap tales with other guests, shoot a game of billiards on our regulation-size table, or play shuffleboard, darts or board games.

Dinner itself will be memorable - we pride ourselves on our wholesome home cooking, and there's more than enough food to curb even the heartiest of appetites. Featuring Saturday Night Steak Bar-B-Q. Linger a while after dinner, or watch a breathtaking sunset. And later you may enjoy a rousing round of cards - we're known for our friendly log-cabin atmosphere - or you might just curl up with a good book.
